Monthly passes

Passes with monthly validity are purchased for the following month only from the 26th of the previous month. For example, the purchase of a Navegante Pass for the month of June can only be carried out from May 26th until June 25th.

In the CARRIS sales network you can load the following Navegante Municipal passes: Lisbon, Almada, Amadora, Loures, Odivelas and Oeiras.

 

30 day passes

They can be purchased at any time of the month.

Navegante passes

Returns are accepted before the beginning of the month they are for. After that date, you can only exchange a Municipal Navegante for a Metropolitan Navegante, of a higher value, up to the 25th of the month the pass is for.

One municipal pass cannot be exchanged for another.

 

Family Navegante passes

These cannot be exchanged. They can only be cancelled if none of the cards have been loaded and on presentation of all the household's cards.

 

Passes valid for 30 days

Before the validity period begins: these can be returned for a full refund;

After the 1st day of validity: returns will only be made with the customer paying a rate of 12,5% of the price of the pass for each day of validity elapsed.

Any fees paid at Multibanco cashpoints will not be returned to the customer.

Returns or exchanges can only be carried out on presentation of the invoice.

Municipal Navegante

A fixed monthly pass, valid for the entire month it is purchased for.

Valid on all regular public transport services within the geographic limits of one municipality, selected from the 18 municipalities in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML).

The validity of municipal passes on CARRIS is limited to the municipalities of Lisbon, Amadora, Loures, Odivelas and Oeiras, but this should be checked per route, depending on the journey to be undertaken. Check here »»

 

Metropolitan Navegante

A fixed monthly pass, valid for the entire month it is purchased for.

Valid on all regular public transport services in the 18 municipalities in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. Valid for all stops and routes on the CARRIS network.

 

Family Municipal Navegante

A fixed monthly pass, valid for the entire month it is purchased for, for three or more members of the same family.

Validity: Valid on all regular public transport services within the geographic limits of one municipality, selected from the 18 municipalities in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML).

The validity of municipal passes on Carris is limited to the municipalities of Lisbon, Amadora, Loures, Odivelas and Oeiras, but this should be checked per route, depending on the journey to be undertaken. Check here »»

 

Family Metropolitan Navegante

A fixed monthly pass, valid for the entire month it is purchased for, for three or more members of the same family.

Valid on all regular public transport services in the 18 municipalities in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, and for all the members of the same family. Valid for all stops and routes on the CARRIS network.

 

Metropolitan Navegante 12

Free for all children up to the age of 12 (inclusive, i.e. up to the last day of the month of the child's 13th birthday), valid on any route, on all regular public transport service operators in the 18 municipalities in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. To use the Navegante 12 pass, children must have a Lisboa Viva card with the Child profile.

 

Metropolitan Navegante +65

A fixed monthly pass for over 65s, retirees and pensioners (with a monthly household income less than or equal to the minimum national wage), valid on any route, on all regular public service transport operators in all 18 municipalities in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

 

Senior Citizens' Urban Navegante (30 days)

Pass for over 65s valid on the urban CARRIS network, on the Metro and on CP urban rail routes in Lisbon, including Benfica, Belém and Moscavide stations, for 30 consecutive days counting from the date of loading.

 

Retirees/Pensioners' Urban Navegante (30 days)

Pass for retirees and pensioners, with a monthly household income less than or equal to the minimum national wage, valid on the urban Carris network, on the Metro and on CP urban rail routes in Lisbon, including Benfica, Belém and Moscavide stations, for 30 consecutive days counting from the date of loading.

 

Local Route Pass

Pass valid on CARRIS local routes for 30 consecutive days counting from the date of loading.

 

Parking Pass

The CARRIS + Metro + Parking pass is an integrated pass that allows you to use the CARRIS network and the Metro network and park in EMEL and EMPARK car parks.

Who it's for:

This pass is for users of car parks and public transport in Lisbon City.

All users must have a Lisboa VIVA card.

To purchase your pass with parking, you must:

  1. Confirm at the EMEL or EMPARK car park you want to use if there is space available for the month in question (see the car parks that are included in this agreement below);
  2. Go to the CARRIS or Metro sales network and load your Lisboa VIVA card;
  3. Go back to the EMEL or EMPARK car park in question and present the receipt for your pass. You will then be given a car park access card (valid for 30 days, equivalent to the period loaded on your pass).

The Family Navegante is a fixed monthly pass purchased by one of the members of the household and loaded on all the Lisboa VIVA cards for that household. It is valid for previously defined households with proven residence in one of the 18 municipalities in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area and consisting of 3 or more members aged over 13.

 

It is valid on any route, on all regular public transport service operators in a single municipality (Family Municipal Navegante) or in all 18 municipalities in the AML (Family Metropolitan Navegante).

 

For access to the Family Navegante Pass, the applicant, the head of the household, and the following people are considered to be part of the same household:

a) Spouse, or unmarried partner of more than two years;

b) Direct relatives and similar (grandfather, grandmother, father, mother, father-in-law, mother-in-law, children, grandchildren…), of the head of the household, or their unmarried partner of more than two years;

c) Adopted children and guardians of the head of the household or their unmarried partner, as well as minors entrusted to them by a legal or administrative decision made by the legally competent bodies or services.

 

The applicant must go to the offices of one of the regular public transport service operators (for CARRIS, at Santo Amaro, Arco Cego and Saldanha) and hand in the following documents for themselves and the members of their household, according to the characteristics of each household.

If the Tax Authority (AT) has insufficient information or no information, other means of confirming the members of the household may be required before the application is accepted.

 

Once the household has been created, just load the Lisboa VIVA cards for each member of the household each month.

 

Changes can be made to the household (add, remove or update members).

Cartão Lisboa Viva

The Lisboa VIVA card is a personal and non-transferable electronic card accepted by all Transport Operators in the Lisbon Region. It can only be used by the Cardholder.
It allows passes to be loaded, as well as zapping options and pay as you go, with VIVA Go (associated with your bank account).
You can load up to 4 different tickets on a single card. These can be passes and/or zapping cards.

 

The Lisboa VIVA card is always associated with a type, which we call a profile.
Normal Profile: with no associated discount, for passengers who don’t fall under the other Lisboa VIVA card types.
Profile with Discounts: Children, 4_18, Under_23, + 65, Retiree/Pensioner and Social+.

Documents required for requesting a Lisboa VIVA card

  • Completed application form (the application is handed in at the operator's point of sale).
  • Citizen's Card, Passport or Residence Permit.
  • Recent, original, colour passport photo, with a plain background, head uncovered and without dark glasses – except in specific situations that have been duly substantiated.
  • In the "Card in 15 minutes" mode, only the Citizen Card and a Bank Payment Card can be presented.

Lisboa VIVA cards are guaranteed for 2 years from the date of issue.

If a card stops working during this period and has no visible damage, it will be exchanged free of charge.

After this period, or if the card has been damaged by the passenger, they will have to pay for the new card.

If your card stops working:

  • Check it using the validation machine or at one of the places on the Sales network. If the card has no available balance, load/top up the card.
  • If the card has been loaded/topped up, has an available balance or cannot be read, go to a CARRIS Shop and hand in the card and proof of loading/topping up.

 

These cards are replaced according to the following rules:

  • Cards are only replaced by the operator where they were loaded.
  • If the card was loaded at a Multibanco cashpoint, the replacement will be made at the customer support office of any of the operators covered by the card;
  • If the card is not working, has no visible damage and is still in the guarantee period, the replacement is free. If the card is damaged or the guarantee period has expired, the cardholder pays for the new card.

 

In order to continue to be able to use the transport while the card is being produced, when the request for another card has been handed in, a temporary card is provided, called a Temporary Replacement card. This card will be valid for the same period as the card that stopped working.

Loss or theft

The operator that issued the card should be informed of this as soon as possible, so that it can be cancelled and to prevent it from being used by a third party.
Customers must request a new card and pay the price in force.

 

Care to be taken with your Card

Your Lisboa VIVA card must be kept in good condition so that it will work properly and the card balance/profile can be read. So, take good care of it:

  • Don’t press the chip on your card.
  • Don’t twist or bend your card.
  • When you validate your card, don’t shake it or push it against the validation machine. The VIVA validation machines are contactless so no additional movement is necessary. Just place it near the validation machine for a few seconds until you get a green light or the gates open.
  • Always remove the card from your wallet when validating it.
  • Don’t have other contactless cards near your Lisboa VIVA card when holding it near the validation machine (for example, Viva Viagem), as the validation machine could read the wrong card.
